Capital Punishment is not Funny

Let’s discuss capital punishment again. As I’ve said before, revenge is not justice and I cannot fathom condemning a person to die using a flawed justice system.

Ann Coulter published a piece that I read… in horror. Read the article for yourself but it is clear Ms. Coulter is making light of people being executed. I fail to find the humor.

Seriously, two wrongs do not make a right. Killing a killer does nothing but make us all killers.

Opposition to the death penalty has nothing to do with compassion. Liberals weeping for murderers have zero compassion for an innocent baby trying to escape an abortionist’s cranioclast. Their dead earnestness about monsters like Clayton Lockett is solely designed to demonstrate how virtuous they are.

I’m only opposing capital punishment because I want to demonstrate my virtue? Ms. Coulter has part of that right. I don’t oppose capital punishment because I want people to know I’m virtuous. But, opposing capital punishment does show my virtue. Pretty nice how that worked out.

Manifestly, these death penalty hysterics do not care about the victims of crime. But they don’t really care about the killers, either. Their only objective is to increase their self-esteem.

This is why liberal arguments against the death penalty are always circular. It’s not about logic; it’s about their conception of themselves.

Again, not quite right. I care about the victims, both victims – the murdered and the murderer. I don’t want anyone to die! Yes, death penalty advocates seem to think killing a killer is virtuous.

Socrates said virtue is knowledge of good and bad. Killing is bad. Not killing is good. Therefore, not killing someone is virtuous. Furthermore, if knowledge can be taught, he thought, so can virtue. He posited there are certain moral laws that are objective and independent of individual feelings. Therefore, if knowledge is virtuous, then moral problems are capable of rational resolution.

Killing is bad, I hope we can all agree. It seems that death penalty advocates, however, only equate that thought outside prison walls. Out of sight, out of mind.
