The controversial Gainesville, Florida, pastor was arrested Wednesday with 2998 kerosene soaked copies of the Qur’an in his pickup truck bed. According to his website, he planned to burn all copies in the Tampa Bay area on Wednesday. I guess he had a lot of s’mores to make.

Mr. Jones is a hateful, spiteful individual who is charismatic and capable of garnering a large following. Unfortunately, he uses that following to spread his hate.

From the Orlando Sentinel:

“My detectives had many conversations with Terry Jones prior to today,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said Wednesday. “He was told he was welcome to come to Polk County and express his First Amendment rights. However, if he violated the law, he would absolutely be arrested and placed in the county jail.

“On Sept. 11, he arrived in Polk County, violated the law, and our detectives arrested him and booked him into the county jail just as he was informed.”

There will always be bad people. There will always be people who follow them. It’s an unfortunate fact that our species has dealt with since the beginning of time. I just wish Mr. Jones would take a step back and see the damage he is causing. I know it will never happen, but a guy can dream, right?
